The 2026 MLB Draft came and went over the weekend, and the Seattle Mariners walked away with a couple power bats as part of a haul that was almost entirely loaded with college players. And Jerry Dipoto's shopping didn't end there.

As tracked by Baseball America, the Mariners have deals with these four undrafted free agents:

  • OF Kyle Boylston, Florida Atlantic
  • C Jake Harvey, Nevada
  • SS Henry Kaczmar, Ohio State
  • RHP Joseph Webb, East Carolina

Not one of these four was ranked by MLB Pipeline or Baseball America going into the draft, and each publication ranked hundreds of players. So as with all undrafted free agents coming into affiliated baseball, expectations for these four are best kept muted.

Nonetheless, Kaczmar is a standout as a player from a major college conference. He was a prospect of some notoriety in 2024 and 2025, and it's not as if he killed his stock this year. He got into 55 games with the Buckeyes and hit .316 with a .989 OPS and 12 home runs. He exclusively played shortstop in college.

Interestingly, Kaczmar went to Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, the same Ohio high school as Dominic Canzone. Joe Bowers, the baseball coach at Walsh Jesuit, called Kaczmar "someone you want in your organization whether it's baseball, business or whatever."

Mariners' haul of undrafted free agents also features a prominent college reliever

Webb is also a prospect worthy of a closer look. He appeared in 31 games with the Pirates this year, covering 68.0 innings in which he struck out 86 batters. He's only 90-91 mph on the fastball, but big enough (6-foot-1, 215 pounds) to possibly be able to generate more velocity. He also throws a splitter and a slider, which is more secondaries than most relief prospects possess.

For his part, Boylston posted a .418 OBP and went 14-for-14 in stolen bases for the Owls this year. The sophomore also played for the football team, appearing in eight games as a safety last season.

Harvey had a .352 OBP for the Wolf Pack this year, and he was on the Buster Posey Award Midseason Watch List in each of the last two seasons. He might bump into another former Nevada alum now that he's with the Mariners, as the organization hired former Wolf Pack coach Jake McKinley as their field coordinator last winter.

It's not unheard of for undrafted free agents to go on to become stars (i.e., Bobby Bonilla) or even make the Hall of Fame (i.e., Bruce Sutter). If any of these four reach those heights, the Mariners will count their blessings.

At the least, the Mariners have given these four the chance to say they played pro ball for the rest of their lives.
