Trade for an Impact Offensive Player

The Mariners made their first big trade of the winter by sending out Harry Ford over the weekend. They could make another trade by sending away more prospects to bring in more win-now pieces. One major name out there that would be a great fit would be Ketel Marte from Arizona. He is arguably the best second baseman in the game right now, and would bring a big boost to the lineup at second base and can also DH.
The Mariners would pay a strong price to bring Marte in, but they could do something they did not do a few years ago with a similar player. A few years back, the Mariners were rumored to like Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds, and whether this was true or not, top prospect at the time Jarred Kelenic was thrown around in a lot of online mock trades. Ultimately a deal never panned out, and Reynolds has declined a little bit from some of his earlier stellar seasons in Pittsburgh.
However, the lesson remains the same. The Mariners could trade Cole Young and others to the Diamondbacks to help them win now. Marte is a big upgrade over Young right now and help them pursue their first World Series. The Mariners would have to feel confident that he would fit their clubhouse because he has some question marks there but if they think he can help them win big in 2026 it could be a gamble worth taking with the Mariners strong clubhouse leadership established.
Outside of Marte, the Mariners seem to always surprise us with their trades for hitters. They have gotten guys like Jesse Winker, Eugenio Suárez, Randy Arozarena, and more when it didn't seem like an obvious move coming down the pipeline. We know one thing, the Mariners are always open to making a trade.
