The Holidays are quickly approaching, and the Seattle Mariners could use some major presents from Santa Claus this Christmas. Here are the five biggest items on the Mariners wishlist, ranging from new bats to a big breakout from one that's already under the tree.
5 things on the Mariners wish list this Christmas
1. A new infielder
Jorge Polanco signed with the Mets, and Eugenio Suárez is a free agent. The Mariners are missing two of their key pieces from the infield in 2025, so they would love to add a new infielder (or possibly even two!). Will it be Brendan Donovan, Ketel Marte, Brandon Lowe, or someone else off the trade market? Or could they make a free-agent signing?
2. A new outfielder
The team needs infield help more than they need outfield help, but another outfielder would help. Victor Robles and Luke Raley both struggled last year, and Dominic Canzone was good until the postseason, when he also fell apart. If the Mariners want to swing for the fences, Kyle Tucker is still an option, but he'd be expensive.
3. A new DH
Do the Mariners really intend to go into 2026 with Canzone and Raley as their primary DH's? Obviously, the team has bad luck finding a solid DH since Nelson Cruz left after the 2018 season. AJ Pollock and Mitch Garver failed to make an impact on the lineup. The team did have success in the second half of 2022, when Carlos Santana stepped into the DH role. He could be a good fit again in Seattle, if the team wants to upgrade at DH. Another notable free agent option is Marcell Ozuna.
4. A right-handed bat
Outside of Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodríguez, and J.P. Crawford, the lineup does not feature many solid right-handed hitters. J.P. Crawford, Josh Naylor, Cole Young, and Dominic Canzone are all lefties, leaving the Mariners with just two righties at the bottom of the order. They are Victor Robles and Ben Williamson, neither of whom is known primarily for their offense. The lineup needs a fourth right-handed bat who can be counted on both in the lineup and off the bench, even if it's a platoon or bench player.
5. Colt Emerson breakout in 2026
This one, Santa might have to keep working on until the spring. The Mariners would love to see a Colt Emerson breakout campaign in 2026. J.P. Crawford has just one more year until free agency, and it would be great if Emerson could take over shortstop as soon as Crawford is out the door. If Emerson is going to be the Opening Day shortstop in 2027, the Mariners are going to need him to begin his breakout now.
