As families gather to give thanks this holiday season, there are probably a few things they are wishing could go better. Mariners fans have plenty to be thankful for too, but there are still a few things Seattle fans wish they were giving thanks for this holiday.
Here are four things Mariners fans are not so thankful for on this Thanksgiving.
4 things Mariners fans are not thankful for on Thanksgiving
Playoff heartbreak
The Mariners were literally eight outs away from reaching the first World Series in franchise history. That still hurts, and it will sting for a long time. M's fans, in fact, might never get over their defeat in Game 7 of the ALCS. One way they might get over it is by winning the World Series in 2026. Mariners fans can give thanks for their ALDS win, but in the back of our minds, we're all wishing they had won Game 7.
Cal Raleigh's loss in the AL MVP race
Mariners fans beat the drum hard for Raleigh to be the MVP in 2025, and when he lost it by four votes to Aaron Judge, it broke the hearts of Seattle fans. Raleigh did more than enough to earn the award, belting 60 home runs and leading the American League in RBI. It makes sense that the award ultimately went to Judge, who himself had a historic season, but it would have been nice to see Raleigh come home with some hardware.
The empty spots in the lineup
Mariners fans are still waiting to find out who will be playing second base, third base, and DH in 2026. That's one-third of the lineup currently missing, and they could still lose Jorge Polanco and Eugenio Suárez in free agency. Obviously, the Mariners will fill those gaps, but it's probably causing some restlessness among fans in Seattle.
Way too many injuries in 2025
The Mariners dealt with way too many injuries last year, particularly on the pitching staff. Bryan Woo, Logan Gilbert, Bryce Miller, and George Kirby all missed time due to injuries. While Logan Evans and Emerson Hancock held down the fort as best they could, it would be nice to see fewer injuries in the rotation in 2026. Mariners fans can be thankful for their talented rotation, and at the same time, they'll all be hoping for better health and better fortune next year.
