The impact Julio Rodriguez has made on this 2022 Mariners team is hard to overstate. He has come in like a jolt of lightning, electrifying and exciting the entire city of Seattle, as everyone can feel the possibility of the postseason in the air.

So, what all does Julio Rodriguez bring to the Mariners ballclub?

He has brought a smile and energy to the ball club that has been missing (dare I say it) since the days of Ken Griffey Jr. himself. Julio talks frequently about how he loves the game of baseball as well as the fans in Seattle, and you can see it in his face.

J-Rod recently signed a massive extension that will keep him in Seattle for years and years to come, and that is incredibly exciting. The Seattle Mariners seem to finally be turning the corner into long-term playoff contention, and Julio will be at the center of those playoff races for the next decade.

Besides representing the future of the Seattle Mariners franchise, his contributions on the field this year have been a tremendous help to get the team to where they are now, which is 17 games above .500 and holding a Wild Card spot. Julio has accumulated 4.8 WAR, and a .272 Batting Average, while also chasing a 25-25 season (he would be the 3rd Mariner to hit that mark). He is sitting currently at 23 HR and 24 Stolen Bases, so the 25-25 season could be achieved any day now.

Julio’s defense has been great as well, as he has turned CF into his stomping grounds. He has started 117 games in CF, only missing some time due to a wrist injury.

Julio Rodriguez becoming the bright young star that the Mariners hoped for is a great sign for the future. In the past, many prized prospects have not panned out, and it creates distrust and disappointment within the fanbase. Julio has come up through the Mariners system and is now set up to be the future face of MLB with the numbers he’s putting up and the impact he’s had on the game.

He shows Seattle fans that although there has been a ton of disappointment in the past 20+ years, this current front office does know what they are doing. They’ve brought Julio through the ranks, as well as two stud prospects turned tentpoles of the rotation in Logan Gilbert and George Kirby.

Julio Rodriguez may just be one player, but he’s the guy that will be the star of the Seattle Mariners Franchise as it transforms into a successful, winning ball club.
