When the Seattle Mariners traded Taylor Williams to the San Diego Padres last season, Matt Brash was the player to be named later in that deal. PTBNLs aren’t always exciting and many probably assumed Brash was “just another prospect” that you would never hear about again.

Well, he’s been a lot better than we could have asked for. Brash has now worked his way up to be the 26th ranked prospect in the Seattle Mariners organization and is arguably pitching the best in Everett.

Seattle Mariners prospect Matt Brash gets promoted to Double-A Arkansas

More from Mariners News

The former 4th round pick needed just 10 games to receive a promotion to Double-A. Brash has climbed up the ranks rather quickly considering that he only has 47.2 innings under his belt. He has one inning in rookie ball, 4.1 innings in Single-A, and 42.1 innings in High-A.

In those 42.1 innings in an AquaSox uniform, the right-hander put together a 2.55 ERA. Isaiah Campbell and Emerson Hancock are the only top Seattle Mariners prospects to have a better ERA than Brash. Another thing to note, Campbell and Hancock have not pitched nearly as many innings as Brash did due to injuries.

He currently leads the AquaSox in strikeouts (62) but has also walked the second-most on the team (25). Matt Brash has held opposing hitters to a .204 batting average and posted a 1.32 WHIP.

Now, the Seattle Mariners prospect is bringing his talents all the way to Arkansas. It will be interesting to see how quickly Brash adjusts to Double-A since Brandon Williamson has been hit quite hard since joining the Travelers.

The big left-hander has appeared in three games and owns a 7.07 ERA. Brash may also struggle early on but that shouldn’t be too much of a worry. If he can finish the season strong in Double-A, he will put himself in a really good spot for next season.

I really like Matt Brash and he should climb up the Seattle Mariners prospect rankings quickly. He reminds me a little of Zack Wheeler. Actually, I take that back, he reminds me a lot of Wheeler.
