Jarred Kelenic is playing at the Triple-A level for the first time in his career this season, and he is already exceeding expectations. The young Mariners prospect had a huge Tacoma Rainiers debut, and he hasn’t slowed down.
Jarred Kelenic in Tacoma
Currently, the Wisconsin native leads the Rainiers in hits, batting average, home runs, runs, RBI, OBP, slugging, and OPS. A better way to put it, he leads the team in almost every offensive category.
After going two for six in his Triple-A debut, he had another multi-hit game. In game two of the series against the El Paso Chihuahuas, Kelenic recorded two more hits and drove in one run. Although he didn’t get an extra-base hit, it is worth noting that he got a hit against one of the top pitching prospects in the MLB, Mackenzie Gore. After reaching first base, he stole second base as well.
In last night’s game, Kelenic recorded two hits AGAIN. He singled twice and drove in two runs in the 9-4 victory. It is also good to see Kelenic’s plate discipline on the stat sheet. He has struck out only twice to start the season. We also saw his good plate discipline in Spring Training which makes Jarred Kelenic such a good hitter. Not only does he hit for pop, he already has a great understanding of the plate at such a young age.
There are reports that Kelenic would make his MLB debut later this month, but he is making a case to be called up sooner rather than later. I cannot wait to see the Mariners prospect in T-Mobile Park. Not only will he provide a spark in the Seattle Mariners lineup, he symbolizes the turning tides in Seattle and in the AL West.
