This coming Saturday will be the beginning of spring training games. The Mariners will be taking on the San Diego Padres in the first game as they always do every year.

Seeing their top prospects like Jarred Kelenic and Julio Rodriguez will be at the top of the list. They are already media darlings. The return of Taijuan Walker along with Logan Gilbert will be interesting to watch on the mound. Questions are swirling about Walker’s arm and whether or not he’s ready to go, and about Gilbert’s timeline to the majors. Gilbert could be sent back to Arkansas or sent to Tacoma or be on the major league roster on opening day. Depending on how ready he is Gilbert should be in Seattle at some point in early 2020.

The Mariners infield of Evan White, Shed Long, J.P. Crawford, and Kyle Seager. Will White meet expectations for his rookie season, can Long be the player we saw in September, Crawford be the shortstop the Mariners need being an important spot on the field, and Seager return to be the player he was three years ago?

Seeing Tom Murphy as the starting catcher before Cal Raleigh is ready to take over. How will Austin Nola do as his back up?

Last but not least, the bullpen. Brandon Brennan is the only reliever remaining that spent the entire 2019 season with Seattle. There’s also Dan Altavilla, who spent much of the season in Tacoma. Will he finally be able to reach the ceiling many had set for him in the past and stay healthy to do so, or is that ship sailed far away?
