On the day the Mariners start their most crucial series of the year, the team made a few announcements. Jerry Dipoto has finally made a trade (kinda) and the Arizona Fall League participants have been announced.

Let’s start with the trade. Today, the Mariners announced they have acquired Kristopher Negrón from the Arizona Diamondbacks for cash considerations. Negrón is a 32-year-old utility man with 112 games played at the big league level.

The journeyman minor leaguer has played for 4 organizations and will report to the Tacoma Rainiers. In AAA Reno this season, Negrón has slashed .283/.368/.477 with 15 home runs and 12 stolen bases.

A minor league depth piece to be sure, but Negrón is likely going to get a call-up after finishing his season in Tacoma. He has registered time at 7 positions in his MLB career. A 40 man roster move will need to be made to activate him to the 40 man roster.

In addition to the small trade, the Mariners also released their 2018 Arizona Fall League Participants. 8 Seattle farmhands will head down to the premier winter league for MLB prospects. The group will be headlined by Evan White, the 2017 first round pick.

White has been in the midst of an incredible hot streak, which we documented here. Fans should be excited to see how White handles the league, and if he can carry his power stroke to Arizona.

In addition to White, the Mariners will also send A-ball RP Wyatt Mills, AAA OF Ian Miller, and LHP Anthony Misiewicz to the AFL. This trio is ranked 9th, 20th, and 27th best prospects in the Mariners farm system.

Finally, the Mariners will round out their representation in the AFL with Matt Walker, Joe DeCarlo, and Chris Mariscal.

The Seattle Mariners begin a critical 4 game series against the Oakland A’s tonight. Jerry Dipoto has roughly 35 hours to make a trade for any kind of impact player. We will keep a close eye on the developments of that time.
