Mariners: Sodo Mojo to mock trades over the next few weeks
Over the next few weeks, the crew at Sodo Mojo is going to be mocking trades that could happen for the Mariners this year. In this article series we’re going to take the route of a fire sale. A total overhaul of the team.
Any Mariners trade we announce will be drafted between a Sodo Mojo writer and a member of another team’s site. We’ll work through the terms of the trade, figure out the player and the return, and then pull the trigger just as Jerry Dipoto would.

So hypothetically, you could read in a week that the Mariners have traded Nelson Cruz to the Phillies for prospects. Do not freak out, because it is not official. We’ll add a disclaimer that it’s a mock trade, but we’re going to try and make it as realistic as possible. We’re going to work on making this team win as soon as possible by cutting loose some of the biggest assets.
We’re also going to try and cut some liabilities to the team, and prune us up to open a new window. We’re going to try and keep the core players, but ultimately, everyone is on the table for the right price this trade season.
We’re looking to make this team good in the next couple of years. We want the M’s
to build up the farm system, and take advantage of some of the players we have at low cost right now. We’re going to want to capitalize with Ben Gamel, Guillermo Heredia, Leonys Martin, and Taylor Motter.
Next: Mariners lack of offense means more than you think
We at Sodo Mojo have come to the consensus that we’d rather be a 65-70 win team for a couple years with the hope of getting to a 90 win team in the near future. Ultimately all these deals will come down to what the other sites want to do, but we’re going to try and make this Mariners team as good as we can for a future window.
