Welcome to the James Bond edition of the SoDo Mojo Mariners podcast.

This week’s episode was hosted by contributors Riley Baker and Alex Sommerfield.

We recorded this podcast right after the M’s bullpen implosion in the ninth inning against the Angels. So this was not a happy time.

We reviewed the disappointing first week of Mariners baseball.

We started off with our interesting stat of the week, which was more like the depressing stat of the week. Explaining what’s wrong with the Mariners offense and their poor offensive output.

All the Mariners have to do is get on base was our consensus thoughts on the Mariners offense.

We examined the pitching staff that hasn’t been as bad as the offense. If they could only just not give up home runs they would probably be set.

We raised the question of whether the Astros short left field porch needs to be moved back and whether Nelson Cruz is started to get old.

M’s fans should be happy that George Springer will be in the colder weather up in Seattle and he won’t be aided by the heat and small ballpark in Houston.

The M’s defense was the next topic, AKA why Jarrod Dyson is better than Nori Aoki. Eventually questioning when Mitchell Haniger will play centerfield.

Riley tried to say that Danny Valencia and Mitch Haniger were sneaky athletic, Alex shot him down for stereotyping.

Jean Segura and his jeans were certainly a hot topic.

We gave out one good player of the week and our one bad player.

We then turned to the minor leagues where we talked about the rain in California, Chris Heston’s first start, Tyler O’Neill’s boring signature, how to pronounce Max Povse, why Andrew Moore will make a start for the M’s this year. Plus, who is Jordan Cowan? There was also debate on when Thyago Vieira will be called up was sparked.

Finally, we ended with our voice of the people questions. Where we were asked our Mariners home game ritual and what bar or pub we go to before M’s games (for those of us who are of age).

The music in the background at the start of the podcast was called In The Country by Josh Armistead.
