Seattle Mariners Enemy: Houston Astros George Springer
The Mariners have had a terrible 10-game start to the 2017 season. After tonight, seven of those games will have been played against the Houston Astros, more specifically, George Springer. His numbers early on against Seattle’s team have swung games in the Astros favor. Now M’s fans are beginning to feel that he is the M’s biggest enemy in the league, at least, it looks like he will be in 2017.
From the very first at-bat of the 2017 season, the Mariners have been stung by George Springer. He took “The King”, Felix Hernandez, yard after just four pitches.
Two days later, he went from making the first hit of the game to making the last. In search of their first win on day three, Springer catapulted the Astros ahead of the M’s 5-3 with a walk-off homer after being down 3-2 in the top of the 13th.
He followed that blast the next day with a third homer of the season with his second leadoff smash of the season. During the three-game break in between the season-opening four-game series, Springer hit his fourth long bomb.
Once he was back facing the M’s, this time in Seattle, he picked up right where he left off. Springer hit another leadoff shot, his fifth of the year and fourth against the Mariners.
This is only his fourth season, but Springer has hurt the M’s each season, this just looks like it’ll be his best year aginst the Mariners by far.
In 2014, he hit a fifth of his homers against the M’s. He hit more than two home runs against just two teams that year and his four versus the M’s were his most against any team.

In 2015, he smashed four more home runs against the M’s which was a quarter of that year’s total. The M’s were the only team that gave up more than two home runs to Springer that season.
The next year, it should be no surprise that he added four more homers against the M’s. Considering he had a total of 29 dingers in 2016, it could be said that he spared the Mariners last season. The four blasts once again were Springer’s most against any team tied this time with the Baltimore Orioles.
When you put all of his home run numbers together, you find he has twice as many homers against the M’s than any other team. He has also hurt the Mariners more than any other team when it comes to stolen bases (4), doubles (10), RBIs (33), and runs scored (33).
Depending on what happens tonight, Springer’s totals versus the M’s could grow. But, whether they do or don’t in the next few hours, the fact is, the M’s will still have to face him for four more series throughout the year.

If he adds another 4+ homers and 8+ RBIs and a bunch of steals, extra-base hits, runs scored, and RBIs against the M’s, Seattle’s fans will grow to hate George Springer even more than they already do.
