Within the last few hours, the poll for our finals matchup for your favorite Mariners player of all-time came to a close. In a battle between the M’s greatest voice in the team’s history versus the M’s greatest all-around player, the final tally wasn’t very close. Here are the results of your votes.
It’s been a long hard-fought battle over the two weeks for the 64 current and former Seattle Mariners who have been part of our M’s favorite player of all-time bracket voted on by you, the fans.
As the rounds went by and the players remaining became fewer and fewer, it became clear that the M’s faithful liked some of the team’s top-seeded players, and who can blame them, being great earns tons of support.
There was one “upset” in the tournament that took some by surprise, including the player himself.

Former M’s utilityman, Willie Bloomquist, made it to the Sweet Sixteen by taking down the likes of Julio Cruz, Raul Ibanez, before losing to a Final Four member and one of the greatest M’s of all-time, Edgar Martinez.
Edgar would fall in the Final Four to the eventual champion but his run was well-deserved.
On the other side of the bracket, the only current M’s player in the Final Four, Felix Hernandez, would go down to the most memorable and missed voice in Mariners history, Dave Niehaus.
This left the voice of Niehaus versus the bat and the glove of Griffey Jr. Who was going to take home the title of your favorite Mariners player of all-time; not the best, but the favorite.
After over one hundred votes, there was a clear winner: “The Kid” Ken Griffey Jr.

His iconic stance and swing in the batter’s box matched with his incredible style and still in center field captured the hearts of millions of fans worldwide, and moreover, he helped the team win like they had never won before in team history.
Niehaus called those games, and brilliantly at that, but all he can say now is, “my, oh my”.

M’s fans have been loyal through one of the team’s toughest stretches in franchise history. Their choosing of three men for the Final Four who have not been part of the team for years proves this.
It’s been a wild 40 years; let’s hope the next 40 years brings the M’s as many lovable players as the last four decades!
