Seattle Mariners Release Tentative 2017 Schedule

The Seattle Mariners have released their tentative 2017 schedule today. Here is a look at some of the key series and scenarios that make next year so great.

The Mariners are in the midst of their hottest streak this year. The team is inching closer and closer to a playoff spot almost every day.

So, why should we care about next year, when this could be our year? First of all, it’s never too early to start planning your schedule to catch a game. Second, and most importantly, there are already series next year that you should be excited for.

A Lot of the Astros Early

While this weekend’s upcoming battle with the Astros is the most pertinent, Mariners fans will be seeing a lot more of them early next year. The M’s will face the newest members of the AL West in seven of their first ten games.

The Mariners have both their season and home openers against the Astros. Fans will be treated not only to see their hometown studs, but the likes of George Springer, Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa. What a way to begin the year, and possibly assert dominance in the division off the bat.

NL East Inter-League

The Mariners will play the National League East throughout 2017. They will be happy to play the likes of the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves. Both teams are rebuilding and are struggling because of it. The Braves were the fourth team to be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. However, it won’t be so easy versus the rest of the division.

The Nationals look stronger than ever this year and there is no indication of that letting up. The Mets are also one of the best teams in baseball of late. And let’s not forget, they made it to the World Series last year.

It’s hard to say whether or not the Mariners will be able to with each or either of these series, but they will be star-studded. The Nationals Bryce Harper and the Mets, Yoenis Cespedes are the top draws. But seeing Daniel Murphy, Bartolo Colon and others would be a treat too.

The real show however, is of course the re-return of Ichiro. Even though he has played the Mariners a few times since leaving the club in 2012, it is always great to welcome him back to Safeco Field. He and the Miami Marlins will meet up in Seattle for a three game series from April 17th-19th.

AL West Filled September

In 2017 the Mariners will face their fullest AL West-filled competition in history. The M’s will only be playing one series against a team not in the AL West. That will be against the Cleveland Indians September 22nd-24th.

In total, the Mariners will play twenty-five divisional match-ups. This means that anything could happen in the standings in the last month of the season. In September, the M’s will face each divisional opponent twice. They will end the season with a series against the Angels, which runs from September 29th-October 1st.
