Nothing beats a day at the ballpark, except a day at the ballpark where you get to take a piece of fandom home with you.

There are many things in place to get fans excited for the regular season. While we have things like Spring Training, annual commercials and Mariners Mondays to placate our baseball needs until April, nothing quite beats a day at the ballpark. Even better than just a day a ball park?  A promotion day at the ballpark.

In my completely biased opinion, Safeco Field is a top 10 in terms of professional baseball stadiums.  Being in attendance at Safeco Field for a Mariners game is often reward enough, but having a free token of fandom always sweetens up the game experience. Years of going to Mariners baseball games has have mustered up quite a collection of unique, but semi useless-trinkets that represent the collectively weird fandom of the Seattle Mariners.

Throughout the years us Mariners fans have been the recipients of many promotional giveaway gems. We’ve had a lots of trains, jerseys, beard hats and bobbleheads…. Then we’ve had Dustin Ackley Gnome Night. Also, College Nights, please go away.

There is always a ton of disdain toward the Mariners because of their inability to produce winning seasons. Many assume that because Seattle does not produce winning teams, that there is an overall lack of fan participation. The front office understands that when a team is losing, that the season becomes about the fan experience.

Many factors are involved in creating a complete fan experience, including social media, in-game activities or music, player involvement, the list goes on. A large part what gets fans into the game are the game day promotions. Promotions are a good foundation for a good fan experience, and no one creates a better overall fan experience than the Mariners.

Here are my top choices for Mariners game day promotions:

August 19-21 v. Milwaukee Brewers: This weekend series against the Milwaukee Brewers starts with a post-game Fireworks Friday evening. On Saturday the 20th, “The Force is Strong” T-shirt giveaway (pictured above) will take place and will feature a screening of Return of the Jedi post-game. The weekend finale will conclude with a Taijuan “Sky” Walker Bobblehead giveaway on Sunday. The Mariners stacked marketing team strikes gold with this weekend, combining a bobblehead, t-shirt and two nights of post-game entertainment under one theme. It’s fun, family friendly and will be sure to draw pretty good crowds.

Saturday, June 11th v. Texas Rangers: King’s Felix’s “K” has become a ubiquitous image for Mariners fans. Every Felix start at Safeco Field, in the corner of left field, sit a crowd of people known as the King’s Court hoisting bright yellow “K” signs above their heads. That crowd serves as a visible reminder of one of the brightest parts of our franchise. Outside of the “K” cards and the t-shirts given out to the King’s Court, there is not a ton of merchandise that sports the signature “K”. If you’ve been looking for something to compliment the mass of King’s Court t-shirts you’ve collected over the years, you will not want to miss this game. The first 15,000 fans receive this “K” Beach Towel.

Saturday, April 30 v. Kansas City: You’d be lying if you said that you were not at least a little bit skeptical before Nelson Cruz played a game in a Seattle Mariners uniform. However we found out that Nelson Cruz is a big deal. He proved that 44 times last year. Cruz even won a Silver Slugger award for last season with that there Boomstick, so it is only right that we have a moment to commemorate the only true offensive show we had last year. It’s not likely that Nellie will duplicate the power numbers that he produced last year, or even the year before. There should be no worry though, because the Boomstick will still see plenty of action this year.

If bobbleheads are your jam (they’re definitely mine) here is a list of all other bobbleheads offered throughout the season: May 14th Kyle Seager, June 24th Felix Hernandez, July 16th Robinson Cano, August 21st Taijuan “Sky” Walker.

Friday, May 27th v. Twins: If you’re attending a game at Safeco, you’re more than likely from Seattle or one of it’s many surrounding areas. That means that you are aware of the unpredictable, but usually some form of uncomfortable cold weather that the greater Seattle are endures in every month that is not mid-May through August. What more prefect a hat to have, than the Mariners Bomber Hat! Personally I’m most excited about this promotion because I have a penchant for collecting odd, but wearable hats with a Mariners logo on it. Sure, the Mariners are celebrating the 3rd or 4th year of the beard hat, and have a fedora hat night, but what teams giveaway bomber hats?! No one that I know of (I didn’t really check)! The Minnesota fans that will be attending this game should also appreciate this giveaway, because who knows more about cold weather than our friends from Minnesota!

Saturday, July 2nd v. Orioles: The mid-May through August perfect summer weather that I mentioned earlier? This giveaway is the cool-est thing you could get. No, really. It’s a perfect to compliment a couple of cold Mac and Jacks or Rainier (age depending) to the beach with a “K” towel. Maybe it can double as a lunch box. The last lunchbox giveaway that I received displays picture of Chone Figgins on it, so I know i’ll be at Safeco to get one of these. Seattle summers are still somehow severly underrated, so make sure when you go to the beach/park/boat on Lake Union, you have something to show your Mariners pride with.

Friday, May 13th v. Angels: We are back to the colder weather accessories with these socks. Not only are socks an extremely practical thing to have in general, these socks have an extra special reason to wear them! I know quite a few folks that like to dress to the nines for a ballgame and have Mariners gear on head-to-toe, and these are excellent add on to complete any outfit. On the other side of things, if you are more tame with your Mariners pride, you can rock these under pair of pants and be satisfied with your supportive contributions. Socks like these are also at least $15 dollars at the team store, so get them while they’re free with your ticket into Safeco!
