Mariners News: Seattle Mariners Rumored to be Interested in the Adam Bomb

The Seattle Mariners are very active at the Winter Meetings on the first day.  They have already traded for Wade Miley and are now rumored to be discussing an Adam Lind trade from the Milwaukee Brewers as reported by Ken Rosenthal.

When Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President and General Manager Jerry Dipoto traded away Mark Trumbo and Logan Morrison it was plain to see that the next step was going to be looking for a first baseman to fill the vacancy.  Today the Mariners depth chart shows Jesus Montero, Andy Wilkins and Steve Clevenger can play first base.  The only one of those players that has seen some time at the major league level is Jesus Montero.  So first base is a priority at the Winter Meetings.

Adam Lind is being shopped by the Milwaukee Brewers as they exercised his $8 million option for 2016.  Lind had a solid 2015 and the Brewers after a 94 loss season are now looking to rebuild their roster.  The 6-foot-2 195 pound Anderson, Indiana native will be a free agent in 2017.  He has had a 10 year career in the majors and his career slash line of .274/.332/.466 is  very formidable.  He again had a solid 2015 posting numbers right along his career numbers as he hit .277/.360/.460 with 20 home runs and 87 RBI’s and 100 strikeouts.  His contact rate ((AB-SO)/AB) is at 80% and is above average.  This is what Jerry Dipoto covets.

The question is what will it take to pry Adam Lind from the Milwaukee Brewers.  Steve Adams also speculates that they might use the 32 year old left hander in a platoon with Jesus Montero who they have in house or bring in free agent Mike Napoli.  At what point are there too many platoon options on the 25 man roster?  It will be interesting to see the plan going forward if this trade is made.  We will keep our ear to the ground to see if Jerry makes another move today.

It’s important to this writer that we mention that today is Pearl Harbor day.  It’s a national day of remembrance and honor for those who perished in the attack on Pearl Harbor.  So please take a moment to remember and honor them.

It’s kind of ironic that today is Pearl Harbor day and the story is about Adam on this date as his nick name is Adam Bomb.  It’s an entertaining story that I encourage you to read about Adam hitting a ball as a young child right back at a woman in the nose and making her bleed.  Let’s hope it’s a sign that Adam is going to get traded and come hit bombs for the Seattle Mariners.
