M’s Adding Four to Start Sept. Callups

Well, the calendar flips to September today and that brings us two pieces of news. One good, and one bad.

For the bad, the season now has one month left. For as bad as the Mariners have been, and as disappointed as we all are, it’s still baseball. It’s still Mariners baseball and I’m going to miss it.

On the plus side, the M’s can begin to rest some of the weary. Some of the overworked position players and tired bullpen arms can begin to rest. Today marks the beginning of September callups and the M’s are bringing up four reinforcements right off the rip.

O’ Malley has played 89 games for Tacoma this season, hitting .297 with a .345 on-base percentage. He has five homers and 39 RBIs. While Divish lists him at IF/OF, the Rainiers have him at LF on their stats page.

Romero spent most of last season with the big club, playing the OF. In 116 games for Tacoma this year, he checks in at .292 with 17 homers and 79 RBIs.

Zych is 1-2 for Tacoma in 25 games with a 3.41 ERA. He has nine walks and 37 strikeouts in that time, so at least he’ll throw strikes. Ramirez was acquired as part of the deal that sent Dustin Ackley to New York. He’s 1-1 in nine appearances. He’s thrown 13 innings and has an ERA of 9.00.

Remember, callups aren’t done. The Rainiers season ends in a week. so more callups will be on the way when the season ends. That’s when you’ll see Mike Zunino and Mike Montgomery again.

Go M’s!
