I love football. I love football season. More importantly, I love the Seattle Seahawks. Russell Wilson, Kam Chancellor (seriously, stop holding out), Earl Thomas, Jermaine Kearse… the list goes on.

I’ve loved the Seahawks my whole life. Like you, I’ve loved them through many lean years.

I think the Seahawks will be good this year. Maybe even get back to the Super Bowl for a third straight year.

But I’m not ready for it yet. It’s still baseball season. But this weekend marks the line of demarcation. This is it.

The M’s are seven games back in the wild card. I’ve held out hope that they’d go on a 20-4 run and make a run at the playoffs.

The Mariners play the White Sox this weekend, who are just as bad as they are. A series win, preferably a sweep, keeps the M’s relevant a little bit longer. It can keep us engaged in baseball, in summer, in all that is right with the world.

But another M’s clunker? It’d be time to flip the calendar to another season of Seahawks football.

I love the Hawks, but I’m not ready for a year full of Malcolm Butler interception highlights.

I’m sorry to open the wound, but get used to it, you’ll hear much more about it.

But let’s please just delay it. And we need the Mariners to do that. Please, Mariners, remain interesting a little while longer.

Go M’s. And in time, Go Hawks.
