‘Kuma Keeps Up Tradition of Throwing Well After No-No

Tradition is a very important thing in life. It helps bond together different ages and generations. Last night, Hisashi Iwakuma continued a very important Mariners tradition: He threw well following a no-hitter, just like the three previous individual Mariners’ no-no hurlers did.

Iwakuma went seven innings, giving up two earned runs and getting the win. That’s six straight wins for ‘Kuma against the Rangers. He was able to keep the ball down and he worked in and out effectively.

Again, it’s a Catch-22 for the Mariners. The M’s probably want to bring ‘Kuma back for 2016, so they want to see him throw well and to his best capabilities. But, every time he pitches well, the M’s run the risk of him attracting more suitors and a higher price tag.

He’s gone at least seven innings in his last four starts and has allowed three earned runs or less in every one of those starts.

‘Kuma is back, but the question really is, can the M’s afford to bring him back in 2016?

With Felix Hernandez, Taijuan Walker, and James Paxton already in place, the M’s need more arms to fill out the rotation. Roenis Elias is probably one arm. Is ‘Kuma the other?

The M’s take on the Rangers today at noon. The M’s are looking for another series win and to make noise in the chase for the second wild card. They are 6.5 games behind the Angels.

Go M’s!
