So, after months of speculation and talk, excitement and frustration, here we are. The series that decides it all.

The M’s get set to host the Toronto Blue Jays for a weekend series at Safeco Field. The M’s are 7.5 games out of the second wild card spot.

Why is this weekend so big? A few reasons…

No. 1: The Blue Jays are one of the many teams that the Mariners are chasing in the wild card, so any chance to gain ground is a big one.

No. 2: The Mariners finally have a chance to gain ground on the wild card leaders. The Astros travel to Kansas City, one of the best teams in the American League, while the Twins host the Yankees. As a New Yorker, I can tell you, the Yankees are a buzzsaw right now, running through everyone. If that continues in Minnesota, that gives the M’s great hope.

No. 3: If all those things come together, the M’s will be right back in the thick of the wild card race, their position after this weekend will tell you if the M’s are in a position to buy, sell, or stand pat at the trade deadline.

No. 4: The Mariners send Felix to the mound today. The Mariners bullpen is in dire need of a great start after the four-game series in Detroit. Anytime Felix goes to the mound is a cause for excitement. The Blue Jays are the top hitting team in the league, so the M’s resolve will be tested once again.
