Mariners News: Ketel Marte Hitting 3rd in Triple-A ASG

The MLB All-Star Game took place last night in Cincinnati, and the Triple-A All-Star Game will go tonight at Werner Park in Omaha. Three Tacoma Rainiers were selected to partake in the special event, but just Ketel Marte will actually play in the game.

Ketel Marte will hit 3rd and start at shortstop for the Pacific Coast League team. Marte is fresh off going 2 for 2 in the Futures Game on Sunday, and is currently ranked by MLB.com as the M’s 3rd best prospect. The 21-year-old shortstop is hitting .343 with 2 home runs, 24 RBI’s and 17 stolen bases across 51 games in 2015.

Forrest Snow was named an All-Star after going 7-6 and posting a 3.03 ERA across 86 innings of work. The Seattle native is having a phenomenal season for the Rainiers in 2015, but unfortunately Snow will not be available to pitch tonight. The 26-year-old right-hander had a shoulder issue in his last outing, and the team’s medical staff wants to play it safe.

Jesus Montero is the final Rainier who was elected to the Triple-A All Star Game. However, due to his recent promotion to Seattle, he is no longer eligible to participate. Montero tore up the PCL, hitting .332 with 15 home runs and 68 RBI’s across 84 games. The former top prospect is 1 for 9 with 1 RBI and a pair of walks since being recalled to Seattle. I’m sure he is a bit disappointed to miss this event, but I think he is happy to be in the Emerald City with the Mariners.

Tonight represents a golden opportunity for fans to get a glimpse at the next Mariners’ shortstop. If you missed him in the Futures Game, make sure you tune into MLB Network at 5 pm to see Ketel Marte. He is an electrifying athlete, and I am excited to see what he can do against the best Triple-A players in the game.
