Mariners News: James Jones in CF Today
By Brady Farkas

The Mariners ruined Felix Day yesterday, but at least it was America’s Day so I’m not all that crushed by it. The Mariners continue to remain partly relevant in the AL West race and semi-relevant in the Wild Card race. I wrote last week that the M’s playoff chances hinged on this period before the all-star break. The Mariners are 3-2 in that stretch so far, so today is once again a must-win.
The M’s send Monty to the mound today. He’s been nothing short of spectacular since his call-up. He’s 3-2 with a 1.62 ERA and looks to keep the A’s off-balance again today. The big ballpark at O.Co should help him keep the ball in the yard and give him a fighting chance for success.
On the M’s offensive side, they run James Jones out in CF today. He’s also batting leadoff. Again it doesn’t say much about the M’s that a AAA call-up can instantly hit in that spot. Where is Franklin Gutierrez?

The M’s get to hit against Chris Bassit today. They avoid Sonny Grey this series, which should be a blessing, but can the M’s capitalize?
Interesting to see Kyle Seager in the two-hole. Robinson Cano has started to pick it up, maybe Seager will too as Lloyd continues to juggle 2-3-4-5 in the order.
First pitch is at 1:05 PST.
