Mariners News: Ben Revere a Target For M’s?
With the Mariners only six games game out in the AL West and currently playing in Cleveland — and still hurting to score runs — we get this report.
The report indicates that CSN Philadelphia knows that the Mariners were scouting Revere during a series against the Reds.
Revere, the speedy outfielder, is just 27-years-old. He’s hitting .270 with 12 stolen bases and five triples. His speed is certainly his greatest asset, as he stole 49 bases last year.

With the Phillies looking at some of their prospects and rebuilding pieces, Revere could be expendable. He apparently even knows that himself, telling CSN Philadelphia this last month:
This is a business. When [Cody] Asche and[Domonic Brown] come back we’re going to have a lot of outfielders and someone might be out. I just have to prepare to help my team win whether it’s here or somewhere else. Just bust my tail and try to stay in the lineup.”
Revere would represent a stolen base threat the Mariners are lacking (Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports).
Revere also has Super-2 status, and is arbitration eligible two more times before he can become a free agent after 2017.
Do I think Revere would represent a positive addition to the Mariners? Yes. He’s got speed, something the Mariners don’t have a ton of, and don’t use a lot of. The ability to hit the ball to the gap at spacious Safeco Field would be a plus. He’s also making just $4.1 million and is under team control for two more seasons.

If the Mariners could get him at the right price and not give up too much, I’d be all for it.
So who would be squeezed out? Logic would say Rickie Weeks has been the worst, hitting .163 this season. Logic would also say the Mariners don’t need another LH bat. And you’d be right, but as the piece indicates, Revere actually has better career numbers against LHP than RHP in his career (.304 vs. .283).
Again, if the price is cheap, I can be on board with this.
Go M’s.
