Kyle Wilcox – RHP – Bryant University – Round 6, Pick 185

The Seattle Mariners selected right-handed pitcher, Kyle Wilcox out of Bryant University with their 6th round selection in the 2015 MLB Draft. Wilcox is the second college righty the M’s have selected in as many days, but represents the first college player drafted by Seattle who did not attend a Pac-12 school.

Kyle Wilcox began his career in the Bryant bullpen, but transitioned to the Bulldogs’ rotation this spring. At 6’3 and 195 lbs., Kyle Wilcox possess the requisite size to be a starting pitcher at the big league level. Wilcox went 7-3 and registered a 3.24 ERA this season.

Wilcox has electric stuff, highlighted by a fastball that touches 98 mph on the gun. Despite the velocity, the 20-year-old right-hander struck out just 50 hitters in 80.2 innings of work. Command is said to be one of his weaknesses, and his 38 walks speaks to this.
