Mariners Analysis: East Coast Mariners Fans

I’m just like all of you. Except I’m three hours ahead.

When Fernando Rodney blows a save, I see it at 1 a.m. It throws off my sleep schedule. When I get excited about a Felix Hernandez and Michael Pineda pitching matchup, I have to think about the possibility of taking a mid-afternoon nap in order to stay up late to watch it all.

And when I go to bed, with what I think is a comfortable lead in hand, I always run the risk of waking up to potential bad news.

My thoughts exactly when I wake up and see bad Mariners results on the East Coast (Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports).

Yes, I’m just like you. I’m a Mariners fan. A diehard. A lifer. Except I do it from the East Coast. Three-thousand miles away from all of you.

Yes, I’m just like you. I’m a Mariners fan. A diehard. A lifer. Except I do it from the East Coast. Three-thousand miles away from all of you.

I used to live in Washington. I’m 25-years-old. I grew up, in my most formative years, listening to Dave Niehaus and being memorized by Ken Griffey Jr. The 1995 season defined my childhood, as it does for many of you. I moved in 1996, but it didn’t matter. Although I was gone, my love for the Mariners remained.

It’s been bumpy. It’s been tough, at times. But at times, it’s also been glorious. I’m out here on an island, and when the M’s are hot, that’s a fun island to be on.

My real name is Brady, and I’m the newest member of the Sodo Mojo team. I’m extremely excited and honored to be here, because on the East Coast, I have no one to talk about the Mariners with. I’ve been talking to people who don’t care for years. Now, I get to finally to share my thoughts with those that do.

The East Coast is great, but not for the diehard Mariners fan. I spent many school bus rides in the late 1990s debating Alex Rodriguez vs. Derek Jeter. My teenage self told people about Felix Hernandez long before people knew who Felix Hernandez was. And even longer before they cared. And now, still, I’m explaining to people just how good Kyle Seager is.

Felix is the best. And I’ll tell the entire East Coast (Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports).

Thanks for having me. Hopefully I can provide to you what you all provide to me, a chance to just talk about the Mariners. It may not always be pretty, but hey, just as 1995 defines my childhood, Mariners baseball in general defines my life.

Here’s to you Dave. And Edgar. And Jay. And Dan Wilson. Here’s to you Felix. And Ichiro. And Seager. And Hiram Bocachica, Jeremy Reed, and Bucky Jacobsen.

Here’s to the M’s. Thanks for having me aboard.
