The World Series starts Tuesday and we all know the story. Kansas City and San Francisco look to ride the hot hand all the way to the end. But in other parts of the world, young prospects are fine-tuning their craft in hopes of helping their team make it to the World Series in 2015 and beyond.
Each Sunday night, we will update you on the latest stats of Seattle Mariners players throughout the various Winter Leagues. *- All stats are through the games of October 19, 2014 unless otherwise noted.
Let’s begin tonight with the Mexican league, which only has one player from the Seattle Mariners organization, currently.
In the Mexican League (Liga Mexicana del Pacifico), James Gilheeney is playing for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo. In his first two starts, Gilheeney is 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA. He’s allowed 8 H over 9.1 IP, striking out nine and walking none.
Liga Venezuela Beisbol Profesional (Venezuelan League)
The Mariners have seven different players on five of the eight teams in the league.
Tigres de Aragua
Ji-Man Choi and Kyle Hunter are on the Tigres. Choi is batting .259 in his first seven games of the season with three runs scored, a homer, 2 RBI and 3 BB.
Kyle Hunter has pitched 3 IP so far with 3 K and has yet to allow a run.
Cardenales de Lara
Gabriel Noriega is batting .265 in his first 10 games with six runs scored, a double, a triple and 4 RBI. *10th game was in progress
Bravos de Margarita
Manny Pina is batting .238 with three doubles, an RBI and a run scored in his first six games with the Bravos.
Moises Hernandez has only pitched 4 IP and allowed seven hits and six runs for an ERA of 13.50.
Caribes de Anzoategui
Mayckol Guaipe has a 3.08 ERA in his first 5.2 IP. He’s allowed six hits, three walks and two earned runs while striking out three.
Leones del Caracas
Victor Sanchez is on the roster for the Lions. In his first two starts, Sanchez has no record with a 2.00 ERA in 9 IP. He has allowed 7 H and 2 BB while striking out 11.
Arizona Fall League
The Surprise Saguaros are off to a 5-6 start and are a game back in the AFL West Division. The Saguaros are comprised of prospects from the Rangers, Reds, Red Sox, Padres and Mariners.
