Mariners Shut Out In Toronto, Hopes Fading Fast
By Dan Hughes

Taijuan Walker knew what was at stake. The Mariners needed a win to keep their average hopes of making the playoffs alive. A loss would make the road a lot more difficult.
Walker pitched his first complete game of his MLB career allowing just four hits. But one of those hits, a bloop single in the 8th, scored the only run Walker would allow and the Mariners lost to the Toronto Blue Jays, 1-0.
The Mariners could not solve Mark Buehrle, who struck out 10 Mariners in 8 IP, allowing only three hits and one walk.
Having just fallen behind 1-0 in the bottom of the 8th, the Mariners led things off in the top of the 9th with a single by Chris Taylor. After Buehrle was lifted for Aaron Sanchez, James Jones replaced Taylor at first.
The speedy Jones however was picked off by a quick move from Sanchez. It’s the 2nd time he’s been picked off this year.
Austin Jackson then struck out for the 3rd time in the game and Dustin Ackley grounded out to end it.
The loss drops the Mariners even closer towards elimination for the 2014 season. The Oakland Athletics and Kansas City Royals both lost, so the M’s are three games behind both teams for the wild-card spots with four games to play.
Seattle finishes up their series with Toronto today with Tom Wilhelmsen getting the start. The A’s start a four-game series in Texas and Kansas City starts a four-game series in Chicago with the White Sox.
