Good news coming out of Tacoma today, as it was announced by MiLB that DH/1B Jesus Montero was named the Pacific Coast League’s player of the month for July.
Montero lit up the PCL last month. He led the PCL with 33 RBI and 72 total bases in 27 games with the Rainiers in July. He ranked second in the league in slugging percentage (.692) and extra-base hits (17), and third in total hits with 39.
Montero also had 12 multi-hit games for the month, highlighted by a 5-for-5, 6 RBI performance at Salt Lake on Independence Day.

In 94 games with the Rainiers this season, Montero is batting .290. He has 24 doubles, 16 home runs, 74 RBI and a triple for good measure.
In his chances with Seattle this season, he’s batting .235 with a homer in six games. He will no doubt be called up on September 1st when the active rosters of all clubs expand to 40 players. He could be called up sooner if Logan Morrison gets hurt.
What he does in September will more than likely determine his fate with the club. With his well-documented off season issues this past year, all of the pressure is on Montero to prove to the organization that he has a place there.
