Clinton LumberKings

Unlike Everett, a bad first half has continued for the LumberKings. Rough series against Burlington, Kane County, West Michigan, and a home sweep at the hands of South Bend put Clinton in seventh place in the Western Division of the Midwest League at 18-24 for the Second Half.

Incredibly, the LumberKings are above .500 on the road. An absurd 4-12 record at Ashford University Field has done them in, and even though only 7.0 games separate the club from Kane County and Cedar Rapids at the top of the West, there is no reason to think that they will even sniff the postseason.

The lone bright spots in a lineup that has been mediocre all year are Austin Wilson, Zach Shank, and Chantz Mack. Each is hitting north of .290 with .460+ SLG. Wilson particularly has impressed, leading the team with 11 HR and 52 RBI.

On a side note, Aaron Barbosa is hitting a bizarre .318/.410/.363, raising more than a few questions about how his game will translate to higher levels of competition. Pitching has been what has done the ‘Kings in.

The entire staff has a 4.18 ERA, about half a run above league average. Edwin Diaz is the only full-time starter with an ERA under 4.00, while Rafael Pineda (36 G, 71.2 IP, 2.51 ERA) and Emilio Pagan (33 G, 3.05 ERA, 13 SV) have been the most called-upon relievers.
