Dustin Ackley And Mike Zunino Coming Out Of Slump? Mariners Beat Mets

facebooktwitterreddit

For the better part of the 2014 season, Dustin Ackley and Mike Zunino have been maintaining a batting average in the low .200’s. On Monday, both contributed mightily in the Mariners 5-2 win over the New York Mets.

Zunino struck out three times, but his solo homer in the 3rd broke a 1-1 tie. Ackley had three hits an RBI but made the most noise defensively.

Ackley robbed Travis d’Arnaud of a home run in the 6th, timing his jump perfectly to pull the ball back over the fence, much to the gratitude of Dominic Leone who had just come into the game.

Kyle Seager did what we expect him to, collecting two hits and 2 RBI in the win.

Roenis Elias got the start for the first time since July 9th – because of the All-Star break – and looked to have benefited from the extra rest. Elias pitched 5.1 IP striking out eight and walking two before being pulled with what is being called forearm cramping.

Skipper Lloyd McClendon says he removed Elias simply as a precaution and doesn’t believe it’s anything to be concerned with.

The Mariners bullpen was solid once again, with only an unearned run allowed in the 9th off Danny Farquhar.

Erasmo Ramirez has been recalled from Triple-A Tacoma and will pitch Tuesday for the M’s. Justin Smoak was optioned down to Tacoma. No starter has been named yet for Wednesday, though the team announced that they will push Hisashi Iwakuma and Felix Hernandez back by a day to face the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday and Friday.
