Josh Tomlin Holds Mariners To One Hit In Indians Win
By Dan Hughes
The recent warming streak the Seattle Mariners offense has enjoyed was put back on ice Saturday night as yet another pitcher with a .500 record or worse, looked like a Cy Young candidate against this streaky club.
A Kyle Seager single in the 5th was the only thing that stood in the way of perfection as Josh Tomlin pitched a complete game one-hit shutout of the Mariners, 5-0.
Roenis Elias struggled at times, allowing five runs in six innings of work, throwing 100 pitches. But the story tonight was Tomlin, who needed 111 pitches for the complete game, striking out 11.
The hottest bat on the club is that of Seager, who is batting .600 in this current homestand. So it figures that he would be the one with the hit. Seager was 4-for-6 against Tomlin coming into the game.

Despite the recent offensive success, the coldest bat on the team may be that of Robinson Cano. Cano turned in another 0-for-3 day, making that three games in a row without a hit. His average has dropped from .337 to .316 in the last week – 3-for-27 (.111).
The bullpen continued to hold serve as Dominic Leone, Brandon Maurer and Tom Wilhelmsen each pitched a scoreless inning with only Leone giving up a hit. The bullpen posts the best ERA in the AL at 2.63 as we hit the halfway point in the season.
Felix Hernandez takes the mound today as the Mariners seek to claim the series win.
