Report: Jesus Montero Likely Being Called Up

Not the news that everyone was expecting to hear this week but after a few key injuries and a solid showing in Triple-A Tacoma, all signs are pointing to C/DH Jesus Montero re-joining the Mariners.

Montero has had a nice season for the Tacoma Rainiers posting a triple slash of .270/.345/.455, belting eight home runs to go along with 40 RBI.

He is listed as 1B on the Rainiers roster but will likely fill in at DH for the Mariners who are right in the thick of things in the oh so competitive AL West.

Jesus was once one of the most highly touted prospects to hit the New York Yankees farm system but after being traded to the Seattle Mariners for RHP Michael Pineda, his career has not lived up to the hype.

In just 164 games played for the Mariners, Montero has managed 18 home runs and 71 RBIs on 661 at bats.

Jesus Montero injured his knee in 2013 and earned himself a 50 game suspension for his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal.

Lets hope that a spark has been lit under Montero after a tumultuous end to his 2013 campaign and also after showing up to camp in the offseason 40 pounds overweight.
