The Pitching

The bullpen received a lot of attention for the amount of runs they gave up, including blowing the potential save in Felix Hernandez‘s last start.

But it wasn’t the entire bullpen. There were three main culprits. Dominic Leone who in two outings, managed to get two outs, but allowed two hits and two runs. Yoervis Medina pitched in three games this week, gave up four hits and three runs in 2.1 IP. Finally, Charlie Furbush, who in the past week allowed six hits and three runs in only 1.1 IP (20.25 ERA).

Meanwhile, the starting pitching got a boost with the return of Hisashi Iwakuma. In his first start of 2014, ‘Kuma went 6.2 IP giving up four runs on six hits while striking out three and walking only one.

Brandon Maurer also allowed six hits and four runs in his start, but only went 5 IP. Felix was a little un-Felix-like giving up three walks in his 5 IP of work. His last few outings have been rough, but we can’t expect greatness every time out.

Chris Young and Roenis Elias over-performed in their starts this past week, each allowing only one earned run. Elias was especially brilliant going seven innings and striking out 10 in his start against the Yankees.
