The Seattle Mariners suffered a power outage Wednesday night as they were held to just one hit in a 2-0 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. Angels starter Garrett Richards was virtually untouchable, allowing the one hit – a single to Abraham Almonte – and walking three while striking out six in 7 IP of work.

The Mariners pitching was stellar yet again. The only mistake made by starter Roenis Elias – in only his 2nd Major League start – was his pitch to Albert Pujols that the former MVP torched over the left-field wall for a two-run homer – the only scoring of the game.

But the story of the night was Richards, who was keeping the Mariners bats cold and frustrated all night long. The Mariners, shut out for the first time this year after averaging over five runs a game over the first seven games.

The team gets a day to collect their thoughts and prepare for their 3-game series with the Oakland Athletics. Felix Hernandez is on the hill for the M’s Friday night.

The other news of the day is the announcement that James Paxton was placed on the 15-day DL. You can catch up on that story by clicking the link here.
