The home version of the Mariners split-squad took a few innings to get rolling, but then pretended to be in the thin Denver air as they beat the Rockies 8-1 in Peoria Monday.

Robinson Cano has another two hit day and is batting .556 so far this spring. Dustin Ackley had two hits and 3 RBI and is batting .600 so far this spring.

The Rockies jumped on the board in the 3rd when Brandon Barnes singled home Charlie Blackmon off starter Blake Beavan. Beavan went 3 IP and gave up only the one run on four hits.

The Rockies never scored again.

The Mariners tied it up in the 4th on a delayed double steal. Xavier Avery stole second and on the throw down from catcher Michael McKenry, Corey Hart came home.

Then in the 5th, Nick Franklin doubled home Humberto Quintero to take a 2-1 lead.

Then, Tyler Smith replaced Franklin at 2nd, Cano delivered an RBI single, scoring Smith. Ketel Marte replaced Cano and promptly stole 2nd, moving to 3rd on a throwing error by McKenry.

Then after walks to Justin Smoak and Corey Hart to load the bases, Ackley delivered the bases-clearing double. The final nail in the coffin for Colorado on this day.

The split-squads come back together Tuesday for Felix Hernadez’s first spring start. The King will take on the Dodgers in Glendale. First pitch one again set for 12:05 pm PST.
