Hello offense!
Nick Franklin, Nate Tenbrink and James Jones all homered and the pitching staff looked solid again as the Mariners moved to 2-0 on the Catcus League season.
I know it’s only the second game of the Cactus League schedule and I know how things looked in camp last year. But it’s hard not to get a little excited when you see results like yesterday’s 7-1 win and following it up with Friday’s 12-1 thumping of the San Diego Padres.
Jones, Franklin, Tenbrink, Ji-Man Choi, Cole Gillespie and Jesus Sucre each had two hits as the Mariners compiled a total of 18 hits.
Just like yesterday’s pitching performance, the Mariners arms held serve yet again.
James Paxton, Nick Hill, Yoervis Medina, Charlie Furbush, Zach Miner, Carson Smith and Dominic Leone combined for 8 IP of four-hit shutout ball with 0 BB and 6 K.
The only run for the Padres came in the 3rd off Ramon Ramirez (who got the win).
Defensively, the Mariners committed just one error, a throwing error on an attempted pickoff throw by Ramirez.
The fun continues Saturday as the Mariners take on the Los Angeles Angels at Peoria Stadium at 12:05 pm PST.
