The stage has been set. The players took their spots. Baseball was back for the Seattle Mariners. And victory was claimed!

It may have only been a Spring Training game against the San Diego Padres, but there were a lot of positive things to take from the 7-1 victory Thursday at Peoria Stadium.

Robinson Cano ripped the first pitch he saw in a Mariners uniform for a single. He also walked and scored a run in three innings of work.

Logan Morrison also contributed early, going 2-for-2 with an sac fly RBI. Abraham Almonte, in the leadoff spot, was 0-for-1 but had two walks. All in all, the Mariners walked four times, struck out only three times, batted 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position, left six men on base and grounded into one double play.

Defensively, they committed zero errors to the Padres’ four.

On the mound, the Mariners dominated. Erasom Ramirez, Blake Beavan, Logan Kensing, Lucas Luetge, Tom Wilhelmsen and Danny Farquhar combined to pitch eight scoreless innings of four hit ball, walking two and fanning seven.

The one blemish came from Joe Beimel who allowed one hit and the one run in the 8th inning.

The Mariners take the field again Friday against the Padres as Corey Hart makes his Mariners debut.

James Paxton will toe the rubber for the M’s with Matt Palmer, Nick Hill, Zach Miner, Carson Smith, Charlie Furbush and Dominic Leone all scheduled to throw as well.

First pitch scheduled for 12:05 PM PST.

We will have starting lineups in the morning and recap after the game.
