Good morning Mariners fans. It’s Saturday and it’s time for your weekly recap of the top stories that affected Mariner Nation. There was a lot of much ado about nothing this week, a little bit of worthwhile news.
If you follow us regularly you probably caught most of them but if not, sit back, grab your Seattle’s Best, your Top Pot donuts and get caught up on all things Mariners.

Remembering Niehaus
We started off the week with the three-year anniversary of the passing of legendary M’s broadcaster Dave Niehaus. Twitter was trending for a time with #MyOhMy and #RememberingDave.
I never got to meet the Mariner great in person, but he was very much a part of my life (both on TV and radio) as I was growing up. Much like Dodgers fans do with Vin Scully, my father would bring a radio with us to the Kingdome and listen to Dave while we watched the live game.

Let the speculation continue
The top story this week is that the Seattle Mariners are interested in acquiring EVERYONE this offseason. Everyone that is, except Jacoby Ellsbury.
As the GM meetings took place in Orlando this week, we stayed on it with daily recaps on Monday and Wednesday, and a live blog on Tuesday to give you the latest. What did we learn?
The M’s don’t want Ellsbury, they want Nelson Cruz, or Matt Kemp, or Dexter Fowler, or Carlos Beltran, or fill in the name of any available outfielder with a little bit of power….here.
They also want a No. 2-caliber pitcher. Matt Garza‘s name pops up often. Masahiro Tanaka‘s does as well, but with the latest news regarding the posting system, that may not happen.

King Felix and Iwakuma get Cy Young and MVP votes
Hisashi Iwakuma finished third in the Cy Young voting, but I dove into the Max Scherzer wins AL Cy Young, Iwakuma Third” href=”https://sodomojo.com/2013/11/14/max-scherzer-tigers-cy-young-iwakuma-mariners-third/” target=”_blank”>results of the voting to try to figure out what some writers were thinking. Felix also received some votes.
What? No votes for Joe Saunders or Aaron Harang? This is an outrage.
Felix and ‘Kuma also received a vote each in the AL MVP results. Felix received a 9th place vote and Iwakuma received a 10th place vote.

One signing and a sit-down
The Mariners did make one signing this week. New manager Lloyd McClendon started filling out his coaching staff with the hiring of former Washington Nationals third-base coach Trent Jewett.
Jewett worked for McClendon as his bench coach in Pittsburgh and will perform in the same capacity now in Seattle.
Finally, Sodo Mojo writer Charlie Spencer-Davis had an opportunity to sit down with Larry Stone of the Seattle Times and pick his brain about the Mariners.
It is a great piece and we are very grateful to have had Mr. Stone give us a bit of his time to share some insights into what Charlie called, “The State of the Mariners Address.”
