Mariners Cruise in Cleveland

Felix Hernandez turned in another dominant start, while the bottom of the M’s lineup delivered plenty of run support in the Mariners 6-2 win over the Indians.

King Felix went eight strong innings, striking out eight while surrendering only two earned runs. David Aardsma came in to close it out in the ninth, securing Felix’s tenth win of the season.

Franklin Gutierrez continued his quest to win Seattle’s collective heart (he already has mine), going 1-5 with a solo home run in the second. Ronny Cedeno also had a big night, coming through with two RBI singles, and Ichiro and Ken Griffey Jr. also had run scoring singles.

Not much else to say about this one. Yesterday, the Mariners played bad baseball against an ace and they lost, today, they played good baseball against a mediocre pitcher and won easily. The M’s send Jarrod Washburn to the hill tomorrow, and Erik Bedard on Sunday, that should give them a legitimate chance at taking three out of four in this series.

Other news and game notes:

-Ichiro’s hit streak is now at: 13 games.

-The Rangers lost today, and the Angels are currently down 4-3 in Oakland. If the A’s hang on and win, the Mariners would finish the day two games back of Texas and four games back of LA.

-The Mariners are facing Tomo Ohka tomorrow (yes, he still pitches), so we really ought to win.
