A few days ago, things were looking pretty good for the Mariners. We had just won our fourth series in a row, we were back at .500, and we had caught up to the Angels in the standings.
Well, this recent series with the Rockies sent all our happy thoughts back into hibernation, at least temporarily.
The M’s came into today’s game hoping only to avoid the sweep, and things got off to a fairly bright start. We were able to get a run across in the first inning on a Lopez sac fly. That was the last good thing that happened today.
I really don’t want to get into detail on how the Rockies scored, so I’ll just say that they took a 7-1 lead capped off by a three run double by Chris Ianetta.
Fortunately, the Rangers lost again today, and in this series with the Rockies we only managed to lose one game in the AL West standings. The Angels completed a sweep of the Padres, though, so we’re now three back of them.
Game notes and other news:
Ichiro’s hit streak is now at: eight games
The Rockies have now won 11 games in a row, gotta give credit where credit is due, they’re playing great baseball
Brandon Morrow is going to make at least one more start in the Major Leagues – hopefully he’ll switch places with RRS after that.
We start a three game series with San Diego on Tuesday
Erik Bedard and Jarrod Washburn are both dealing with mild injuries right now, and we really need them to get healthy for the sake of this team and for the sake of their trade values.
Oh yeah, there was also a 55 minute delay today due to a tornado warning.
