Sodo Mojo Podcast: Shutting Down Felix?

What’s up everyone? Welcome back to the Sodo Mojo Podcast. This is Episode 7. If you’re new, we do this every Monday and Friday for 10 minutes or less. We address three main Mariners questions/concerns each week. Listen to us at work, at home, on your computer or mobile device. We’re all Mariners fans and we are all in this together.

On today’s Podcast:

1. We recap the weekend: The M’s salvage the series in Boston with a Sunday win. It was an ugly series as the M’s pitching staff really took a toll. The M’s are now 55-63 and 6.0 back in the chase for the second wild card.

2. We look ahead: The M’s take on the Rangers this week and have a chance to put a dent in both the AL West and the wild card chase. The M’s still have a soft schedule the rest of the month. They’ll play the White Sox twice, the A’s, and then the Astros.

3. We talk about Franklin Gutierrez. I want him the lineup all the time.

4. Fernando Rodney clears waivers. What should the M’s do with him? I answer that.

5. Perhaps the most controversial point of the podcast: If the M’s are out of it by Sept. 1, I think they should look at shutting down Felix Hernandez and Carson Smith. Neither guy has looked the same of late and I think the M’s need to protect the future. Felix has so many innings under his belt, I don’t think four meaningless September starts is the most important thing in the world.

Enjoy, Go M’s!
