Seattle Mariners Gameday Preview Versus Detroit Tigers
Initial Thoughts:
The Seattle Mariners’ fans are hoping to get a win today with Max Scherzer scheduled to throw Sunday’s game. Winning today would ensure avoiding a possible sweep tomorrow. But it won’t necessarily be easy as LHP Drew Smyly gets the ball for Detroit.
Game Details:
Seattle Mariners 26-28. Last 10: (4-6)
Detroit Tigers 31-20. Last 10: (4-6).
Game time: 7:10 PM Pacific. Location: Seattle, Washington. Safeco Field.
MATCHUPS:
Pitching:
Seattle Mariners RHP Chris Young (4-2, 3.30 ERA) vs. Detroit Tigers LHP Drew Smyly (2-3, 3.86 ERA)
EDGE: Young. Smyly is coming off the worst start of his season (allowed a career-high four home runs, lasted five innings, giving up six runs on eight hits). Doesn’t mean he will repeat the performance, but it would be nice to get some runs across early and often.
Projected Lineups:
1. Willie Bloomquist, 2B
2. Endy Chavez, CF
3. Mike Zunino, DH
4. Justin Smoak, 1B
5. Kyle Seager, 3B
6. Stefen Romero, RF
7. John Buck, C
8. Cole Gillespie, LF
9. Nick Franklin, SS
Of Note: The Mariners are going righty-heavy against the lefty. Zunino gets a shot at DH and John Buck will catch. Cole Gillespie gets the start in left and Endy Chavez – yes that’s right – Endy Chavez gets the start in center.
Tigers:
1. Ian Kinsler, 2B
2. Torii Hunter, RF
3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
4. Victor Martinez, DH
5. Austin Jackson, CF
6. Alex Avila, C
7. Nick Castellanos, 3B
8. Andrew Romine, SS
9. Rajai Davis, LF
Of Note: The Tigers are not to be trifled with. Miggy and V-Mart at 3 and 4 can do as much damage as any other 3-4 spot in the league.
Other Notes:
Brandon Maurer was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma and the Mariners called up Endy Chavez, who gets the start tonight in center.
Final Thoughts:
I would love for the veteran Young to go out there and throw a gem against the Tigers. I just don’t know what kind of offensive support he is gonna get with this new lineup.
Score Prediction:
Mariners 3, Tigers 2
