It’s always fun playing LA. No matter what, I’m pretty surprised that the games against them don’t have higher turn outs by the fans and the same with the games against the Rangers. I don’t know maybe people just don’t have the same feeling towards the teams. It’s not about just one person on that team, like how it is with A-Rod and the Yankees or Roy Halladay and the Blue Jays. I mean it doesn’t matter who they have on their team I am excited about playing them because this isn’t about who wins the division, yes it contributes to the overall record and gives each team an opportunity to pull ahead or gain ground. This is simply about respect, fear and domination. We should have this attitude to show people “Hey, we are a team to be reckoned with!”, and our division rivals should be worried when they come to town.

I know I went all crazy calling LA the pit of all evil but seriously outside of the Yankees is this is the team that you absolutely hate, not because they are filled with horrible guys, and not because they steal our players or even because we feel they bend the rules in their favor. It’s simply because they are in south California and competing in the same division as us.

In this world of kum ba ya and love and harmony this city and team needs some serious villains. Someone that we point at and say “GAME ON” I can’t wait to see them lose, I think it should be the same way with the Rangers and even with the Athletics far behind in the standings this year have a lot of talent that deserves some serious concern in the very near future.

It’s not about wanting to physically harm someone for the colors they show or the town they are from, It’s simply about going out to the game on these days and giving our home town team support. About having the attitude “The (<Insert any other AL WEST Team name here>) are in town? Well we need to go, it’s going to be a good game!”

I remember my Dad and I didn’t go to a lot of games so when the team schedule came out in February we circled the games against the Rangers or Angels that we would want to attend. That was it, my friends and I didn’t want to see the Red Sox or Indians. We wanted to see the teams we were competing against, we wanted to cheer them on and watch those “stupid halos loose” and right now I don’t see that, and I don’t quiet understand what happened. Has it just been from all the losing that we have gone through that everyone is apathetic about who we play?

I know I always end my posts with “Thoughts?” or something like that but, I’d seriously like some feedback.

  1. Good stuff. I just feel like the passion has come out of the rivalry this season now that we’re out of the race. It will be back, strong as ever, in 2009. I still hate the Angels.

  2. Harrison Crow says:

I also believe there will be more of a rivlary restored next year. Greatly due because this year was a much better year for the Mariners and will draw more fans back to the game because of that and even more so when we show a pattern for winning.
