I have to admit. This was not something that I was expecting to see come across my timeline or email today. The Mariners have one of the most exciting young players in baseball, and even though he has had a rough start to the 2023 season, he's still the face of the Franchise and a main driving force for the M's. Julio Rodriguez is going to be here for a long time, especially after signing the monster extension that could keep him in Seattle til he's almost 40.
Yet, here we are, as someone is out there trying to act like there are trade destinations for Julio Rodriguez like it's a real thing? Are you kidding me? JukThere is no way that any reasonable or logical person would think that this is something that could happen. Sure, we see trade rumors fly around as we get into summer, but nearly all of them have a basis behind them. It's someone on a short-term deal, a rental, a player who publically wants out, or someone who the team has mentioned is available. Not the arguable face of the game who owned baseball as a 21-year-old rookie.
Julio Rodriguez is going nowhere. Period.
Can you believe that this even needs to be written?
I understand wanting to drive views, I really do. In a medium where that is how you make your bacon, the likes of Skip Bayless, Jim Rome, and Colin Cowherd say ridiculous things all the time in order to drive traffic to their respective outlets. Rome is something else, Skip has embraced being crazy (long gone are the days of him being the normal one at the desk alongside Woody Paige), and Cowherd is just on a ton and likes to make people question and think.
Even they wouldn't say something like this. If Bayless of Stephen A. Smith tried, whoever was across the desk would throw their pen at them. It's asanine.
Sorry Cards, Blue Jays, and Red Sox, but you aren't getting Julio. It's not happening. Julio Rodriguez is here to stay in Seattle, and Mariners fans are in for years and years of the J-Rod show.
