The Mariners marketing team always pushes the envelope when creating campaigns, branding, and media to increase engagement with the team. We've seen a ton of excellent season branding and slogans over the years, ranging from "My Oh My" to "True to the Blue" to "SEA Us Rise," which they consequently wrapped in the farm system with the major league club. With pitchers and catchers set to report to Peoria this week for spring training, Kevin Martinez, the Mariner's Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications, and his team unveiled the 2024 slogan to the masses via a short X post.

As many of you know, the Mariner's home run celebration involves a fairly heavy trident that captain J.P. Crawford acquired a few weeks into the 2023 season. We've seen the prop become a familiar piece of the dugout since April 19th when superstar centerfielder Julio Rodriguez ripped a homer against the Milwaukee Brewers. The cool thing is each player adds their own flair to their celebration. Even outfielder Taylor Trammell got into the act after taking Blue Jay starter Chris Bassit deep for a grand slam in his first game back from Tacoma.

The marketing team released a pretty ingenious bit of social media to show their new slogan and provide a hat tip for the start of spring training games on the 24th of this month. The advertisement was a short 15-second clip showing a desert landscape with cacti and a subtle pan of the trident among them.

It will be interesting to see what marketing efforts the team ties to the trident. The possibilities are endless. There will be plenty of merchandise (T-shirts, hats, etc.), but they could even take it to the concession stand. Who wouldn't want trident-skewered chicken kabobs or shrimp on the trident? Keep your eyes peeled for more trident-centric social media and initiatives from the Mariner's marketing team as they fully embrace Crawford's 2023 addition to the dugout.
