Julio Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners is another exciting prospect that is set to debut in 2022 and I think he has the potential to win ROY in 2022

Like I said before, it is rare for the Seattle Mariners to have this many prospects lined up in the system waiting for their turn to join the big league roster. Julio Rodriguez is the second-highest ranked Mariners prospect behind Jarred Kelenic and arguably has a higher ceiling than Kelenic. Rodriguez is only 19-years-old, but he is already one of the most well-known prospects in the entire MLB.

At the moment, Julio is the 15th ranked MLB prospect right in front of Austin Martin who was the 5th overall pick in 2020 by the Toronto Blue Jays. Rodriguez has been tearing up the minor leagues already at such a young age and is showing so much promise. After two seasons in the minor leagues (2018 and 2019), Rodriguez has a minor league career average of .322, .395 OBP, has hit 17 home runs, and stolen 11 bases.

Rodriguez has the ability to hit for average and power already and will continue to get better. The 6’3″ outfielder is a strong outfielder and is surprisingly athletic for his size. Rodriguez might not be a Gold Glove outfielder, but he can a bit and has a great throwing arm. We have already seen his fun personality in his recent YouTube channel the Mariners created, featuring him. He will be the perfect star for the Seattle Mariners organization in the next few years.

Julio Rodriguez has struggled with some injuries while with the Mariners, but if he stays healthy as he grows into a star player, he is easily a top candidate for AL ROY in 2022. It seems a long way out, but it really is right around the corner. Kyle Lewis and Jarred Kelenic will be the main focus next season, but Rodriguez cannot be forgotten in their shadows. Rodriguez is my top candidate, but there is another player that I think should be mentioned for the 2022 ROY campaign.
