Seattle Mariners: Jerry Dipoto

Dipoto’s tenure with the Mariners will likely be split into two parts. The first half will be judged by the moves Dipoto made to contend in the American League. The second half will be made up of the moves made this offseason and beyond, in an attempt to “retool” the M’s for the next decade.

Grading Dipoto thus far isn’t easy because the Mariners are currently in the midst of a massive transition. What Dipoto has already done as well as what he plans to do over the next few years earns Dipoto a B- overall. Had the team made the playoffs in any of the last three years, it’s easy to assume that Dipoto could earn at least a B+ if not an A.

For now, it seems that Jerry Dipoto is really just getting started. He is working his way towards a clean slate, one devoid of the contracts and players signed before his time. Once that goal is completed, we can more accurately judge the Dipoto Era Seattle Mariners. For now, all we have is our hope’s and dreams.
