James Paxton Leaves Rehab Start
Last night in Tacoma, another setback for rehabbing Mariners lefty James Paxton…
We got word after the game that it’s just a blister. So, not too much to be concerned about. Remember, Hisashi Iwakuma has dealt with blister issues before, as have many, many pitchers. ‘Kuma is just fine now.
I still think we’ll see Paxton again in 2015, and at the very least, that’s important so he can get some momentum going for 2016 and the M’s can allow Felix and others to rest a bit. The added arm will help the team out immensely. The tired rotation and bullpen has been a huge Achilles Heel for this team.
The health concerns with Paxton are real and frustrating. If the Mariners are to contend in 2016 and beyond, they need him. He’s young and he’s under team control. The Mariners need him, Taijuan Walker and Roenis Elias to grow together behind Felix Hernandez.
The M’s still need a fifth starter for next year. I don’t think it’s Vidal Nuno or Edgar Olmos. They need to go out and find an innings eater, like they did with Chris Young, Aaron Harang, and JA Happ this season.
Bottom line: Paxton will be alright from this blister, don’t let it bother you too much, fans.
M’s are off today. Enjoy a day of peace in fandom. And have fun knowing the M’s just 2/3 from first-place Houston on their home field.
Go M’s!
