Mariners Notes: Felix’s Son Throws Heat (Video)

While I haven’t always been happy with the product that the Mariners have put on the field, I have always been proud of the organization when it comes to marketing, promotions, fan relations, and just general “Doing things the right way.”

Such was the case again on Sunday afternoon when the Mariners invited some of the players son’s to Safeco Field to throw ceremonial first pitches before the M’s eventual loss to the Houston Astros.

Hisashi Iwakuma’s son, Seth Smith and Jesus Sucre’s daughters, and Felix Hernandez’s son Jeremy all threw out the first pitch to their dad. Except Robinson Cano caught the first pitch from the younger Sucre, as her dad was warming up J.A. Happ in the bullpen.

Doesn’t Jeremy remind you of dad? Check out the arm on that youngster. Perhaps the Mariners scouting department should be taking notes for years down the road.

And look at Felix’s reaction… That’s what the moment was supposed to be about I’m sure and why the Mariners set it up.

Another job well done in Seattle and I’m sure every dad in attendance enjoyed it too — conjuring up images of playing catch with their own kids.

I’m sure it was also a nice moment for the M’s players, who don’t get a lot of family time during the season due to location, travel, and schedule demands.

The Mariners open up a series tonight with the American League Champion Kansas City Royals. Felix takes the mound at 7:10 as the M’s try to stay afloat in the AL West.
