Cody Mobley – RHP – Mt. Vernon High School (IN) –  Round 8, Pick 245

Cody Mobley is the 3rd high school hurler the Mariners have selected in the first 8 rounds. Mobley is committed to attend the University of Evansville in the fall, but the recent developments in his baseball career may force him to reconsider his options.

Mobley has a 4-pitch arsenal on the hill. His best pitch is a fastball that tops out at 92 mph, but he mixes in a plus curveball, an average changeup and a slider. He stands tall at 6’3 and weighs in at 190 lbs. His frame suggests he could be a starting pitcher at the next level, but he will have to put on weight to withstand the wear and tear of starting 30 games per season.

There is no guarantee Cody Mobley signs with the M’s, but if he does, he likely has at least 4 years of minor league baseball ahead of him. Mobley was ranked as the 21st best prospect in the state of Indiana this season by the Prep Baseball Report. I would not be surprised to see him turn down the M’s offer in favor of going to school.
